What Conditions Do Chiropractors Treat?

Person holding their backIf you are curious about chiropractic care, you may wonder what kinds of conditions chiropractors are able to treat. Chiropractic care is non-invasive and can be used to treat many different musculoskeletal disorders, especially those that result from spinal imbalance.

As a licensed chiropractor in Virginia for the past 20 years, I have used chiropractic care to help patients treat a wide variety of health conditions. I use my expertise to help my patients overcome mechanical spine pain, which is pain caused by joint instability in the spine.

The following is a list of common conditions that chiropractic care can help to treat:

  • Low back pain: Chiropractic care is a conservative treatment strategy for low back pain. Much medical evidence supports the use of chiropractic care for low back pain.
  • Headaches and neck pain: Chiropractic care can help to relieve pain from headaches, including those from migraines and referred neck pain, or neck pain that manifests as a headache.
  • Mid-back pain: Pain in the thoracic region of the spine, or the midback, can be treated with chiropractic care.
  • Degenerative disc disease: This condition is common as we get older. Over time, the intervertebral discs in your spine which provide cushioning between vertebrae can become damaged. They can break down, become thinner, or become damaged more easily. This can cause them to lose flexibility, elasticity and the ability to absorb shocks.
  • Whiplash: Whiplash injuries are most commonly linked to car crashes, but can occur any time your neck is forced to straighten and bend outside its normal range of motion. This can lead to neck pain, stiffness, tenderness, and a decreased range of motion. Whiplash injuries can also occur during roller coaster rides, contact sports, and falls.
  • Bulging and herniated discs: Discs that protrude into the space of the spine meant for the spinal cord and nerve roots are called bulging discs. Sometimes, the disc herniates, meaning that the jelly-like innards of a disc will spill out into these areas of the spine. Chiropractic care can help to relieve pain from bulging or herniated discs while they undergo the natural healing process.
  • Spinal stenosis(mild to moderate): In spinal stenosis, the bony openings in your spine become narrowed. Chiropractic care is a non-invasive treatment for spinal stenosis and can help with mobility and pain perception.
  • Back sprains and strains: Chiropractic care can help to relieve pain from back sprains and strains. Sprains are caused by damage to ligaments, which connect to bone. Strains are caused by damage to muscles or tendons.
  • Radiating pain or numbness: Pain or numbness that radiates through your body or down an arm or leg may be due to compressed nerves in your back. Chiropractic care can help to alleviate spinal imbalance and relieve pain.
  • Dizziness/vertigo: Vertigo can occur after trauma to the head or neck. Chiropractic care can help to alleviate the symptoms of vertigo.
  • Sciatica: This electric shooting pain can occur when the sciatic nerve becomes compressed or irritated. Chiropractic care can help to treat sciatica.

Precision Spinal Care’s Commitment to Spinal Health

I am an experienced expert in spine health, and the multiple conditions that can be treated with chiropractic care. My training allows me to competently and safely address the underlying conditions that are causing you pain. I am trauma and hospital-qualified and have credentials in MRI spine interpretation, spinal biomechanical engineering and orthopedic testing through the Academy of Chiropractic. I am also a fellow in Spinal Biomechanics and Trauma which is recognized through the SUNY Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine.

As a certified NUCCA chiropractor and credentialed spine care specialist, I strongly believe that the first visit is best used as a time to fully assess your condition. This includes a thorough exam of your spine and a discussion about your medical problems.

After your exam at the first visit, we will discuss my evaluation. If chiropractic is not the best solution for your needs, I will recommend the type of specialist who is most appropriate for you.

If chiropractic care is the best way to meet your care goals, we will work together to develop a plan to meet your needs. I make sure to set reasonable expectations and milestones for your recovery. At regular intervals, I will reevaluate you to make sure you are meeting these goals and that chiropractic remains the best choice for you.

We understand that you need to explore all your options when you look for expert chiropractic care. At Precision Spinal Care, we are happy to help you determine the best way to address your specific needs and discuss all the options with you and your family.
