How to get Relief from Chronic Headaches

Migraine, Headache, Natural Relief, Drug FreeIf you suffer from chronic headaches, then you know that living from day to day can be a challenge. There are so many options available for treatment that it can be hard to decide which way to go, especially if you are trying to decide while suffering from a headache. You may live in fear of the next occurrence. When will it come, how bad will it be, and how long will it last?

What We Know About Headaches

Through research, it has been determined that the brain stem (the part of the brain that exits the skull into the upper neck and connects to the rest of the body) is a major source of headaches. Without the proper flow of oxygen to the brain, headache pain is caused. The brainstem can become injured if the upper cervical spine is biomechanically unstable. When certain pathways and centers in the brain become affected, it has negative effects on the blood flow and Neurology. If the C1/C2 vertebra, located in the upper neck, are misaligned, this affects neurology and blood flow to the brain.

What to do About Headaches

There are many treatment options for your headaches. Some suggestions are essential oil therapy, powerful pharmaceuticals, light therapy, or even surgical procedures. You need answers to your questions:

  • What is the right method for me?
  • Which one will have the least side effects?
  • Are there any natural methods to try?

Upper Cervical Chiropractors (upper neck specialists) such as Dr. David Packer of Chesapeake, Virginia, use tools and testing designed to determine if the cause of your headache is coming from a misalignment (subluxation) of the vertebrae in your upper neck. Once this misalignment is confirmed, special x-rays are taken so that you can be adjusted according to your specific problem. This adjustment is given only when needed to realign the upper neck. Realignment can, in turn, restore neurology, blood flow, and brain function. At this point, the healing can begin.

What are the Results?

In a study of 101 patients (57 tension headaches, 37 migraines, 6 sinus headaches, 1 cluster headache) with chronic headaches/migraines, 87 patients had injuries to the upper neck. All cases received upper cervical chiropractic care, and 85 patients had total resolution of headaches in 1-8 months. 12 other patients saw vast improvements and reduction in headache frequency[i].
