Symptoms that Follow Concussions in Chesapeake, Virginia

From Concussion to Post-concussion whiplash-driver

Yes, when a person sustains a concussion, it is because of damage done to their head, but the symptoms that often follow the concussion, which are called Post-concussion Syndrome (PCS), are often related to an injury in the upper neck. Because MRI’s, CAT scans, X-rays, and neurological exams most often focus on trying to determine if there are any injuries to the skull and brain, they don’t find those injuries to the upper neck.

Now, it’s important to note that those symptoms may not occur for day, weeks, months or even years after you suffer from a concussion. It’s important to know what those symptoms might be, so we listed them below:

Post-concussion Syndrome Symptoms

  • Chronic headaches

  • Dizziness

  • Brain fog

  • Sensitivity to light

  • Sensitivity to noise

  • Depression

  • Frustration

  • Amnesia

  • Confusion

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

Concussions and Blood Flow

In a study by the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in the February 2013 edition of JAMA, Post-concussion Syndrome (PCS) was found to be present in 29.3% of children from the ages of 5 – 18 who went to the emergency room because of concussions. Other studies revealed that about one out of every three people who suffer from concussions will go on to suffer from those lingering symptoms of that mild traumatic brain injury.

Though, there is an underlying cause to your sudden headaches, nausea, or other symptoms that suddenly appeared after your concussion. You sustained an injury to your upper neck, which caused the misalignment of your upper cervical vertebrae. A misalignment of the top two vertebrae in your upper neck can alter the flow of blood between your brain and your body and lead to all sorts of health complications.
